A Fan is Like A Friend
Like any fan, I am a true believer in Gus and Frank. When you become a true fan of a person’s (or a couple of people’s) music, most of the time, it feels like there is a connection. Fans of Gus and Frank should know that there is a place where they can gather and be understood. Much like the fans of the Beatles, or of some other popular group, Gus and Frank fans are committed.
And I guess that’s the reason why I find it so easy to compare being a fan with being a friend. Yeah sure it may be a lopsided friendship in some ways. One side speaks through their music, and the other side wonders if they will ever get to meet the object of their obsession; but still the support is there as well as the love. This is what it’s like for those who want to show their undying support to a group like Gus and Frank who have for over a decade changed the music scene in Australia thanks to their addition to it.
If the truth were told, many who call themselves fans know that they may never get to express their friendship to Gus and Frank the way they could with a childhood friend who grew up down the block…but for the die-hard fans, that really doesn’t matter anyway.
